Hi, I’m Sara Boyle, author, sometime-photographer and recipe developer here at AgaveMad.com. AgaveMad is a recipe website for those who love cooking and baking good wholesome tasty food with agave syrup and other ingredients available in any store. Recently launched, the site is a growing resource for delicious agave recipes, and tips and tricks to help you bring the best out your kitchen.
As an avid early reader of food blogs before I started writing, I’ve been in the kitchen baking since I was a young child. Doing all the cooking, baking, some photographing and of course taste-testing for AgaveMad, I also track down at least a few people willing to have a bite (or three) to get second opinions on my recipes. Friends, neighbours and fellow food fundies are all fair game.
Using agave syrup in place of ‘regular’ sugars in recipes is relatively straight forward, but it does take a little know-how. Besides being a healthy alternative to sugar, agave isn’t a difficult ingredient to add to your pantry and won’t crystallize (like honey) giving a super long shelf life. Agave is easy to interchange in sauces, drinks or stir frying, but in my experience baking can be a bit more difficult, as the presence of sugar in a recipe does some ‘scientific things’ besides sweetening – so using agave can be a bit of a balancing act. I’ve collected a few guidelines I use in my own kitchen when it comes to switching – you can find them here.
Don’t hold back – treat yourself and your family!
When I’m not baking, writing or traveling, I’m out mushroom hunting – deep in our lovely countryside or around the corner in a neck of local woods, with fellow fungal fanciers. I also love hiking – the higher the mountain the better – where I can burn off some of the calories from taste testing all of our AgaveMad goodies. Prevention has always been my philosophy – a healthy balanced diet is a good basis for ensuring a harmonious and healthy life. My big vices? Good coffee, and . . . chocolate!

If you’d like to submit a recipe using agave, please don’t hesitate! There’s a page for submitting recipes here. No promises that your recipe will make it to the website, but I guarantee I’ll give it a test in the kitchen, and give you full credits if it passes the mustard – oops, the “agave”!
